Who can apply to the scheme?
The scheme exists to support youth members of the 1st Kirkby Scout Group and partnered Black Cats Explorer Scout Unit to take part in Scouting. We encourage anyone who would benefit from support to apply to the bursary scheme, and applications will be kept confidential.
What is the scheme for?
You can apply to the fund to cover the cost of compulsory pieces of uniform, essential pieces of personal equipment (like sleeping bags), and for the cost of attending an event, such as day activities or camps. You can apply for all or some of the cost.
How much can I apply for?
There is no limit on how much someone can apply for, but those running the scheme will have to make decisions based on how much is currently available. We will give priority to ensuring everyone has a uniform that fits, so they can feel part of our community at our weekly meetings. Attending day activities or camps will be our next priority to make sure people don’t miss out. Essential pieces of personal equipment will be given the least priority, because there is often the chance to lend rather than buy.
How do I apply to the scheme?
You can either ask a leader to make an application for you, or an application can be made online using the bursary form (not yet available).
How is it funded?
The fund is made up of donations from individuals or organisations who want to support the young people of Kirkby reach their full potential. We will publish details of those who have donated to the scheme if they are happy for us to do so. We do not share information about who has received funding from the scheme with these donors, but we will let them know how many people have benefitted, and what kind of things the funding was spent on.
