In mid-2009 the headquarters of the 1st Kirkby Scout Group was named the “Kirkby Scout Centre” because in addition to the 1st Kirkby Scout Group the building was hoped to be used by an Explorer Scout Unit as well. This was realised in mid-2012 with the formation of the Black Cats ESU.

In June 2012 the Kirkby Scout Centre was severely damaged by a fire. But this damage was repaired and the newly refurbished centre was reopened by John Parrott, the World Snooker Champion, on 12th December 2012. The building has much more useable space due to an interior redesign and is now fit for the 21st century. This includes a main hall, multi-purpose room and modern toilets including disabled facilities. If you are interested is using the Kirkby Scout Centre for Scouting or non-Scouting activities, please get in-touch.
