4th April 2012 - Final security improvements completed Courtesy of a grant from the Police Property Protection Act Fund, the Kirkby Scout Centre's security has been further improved to ensure this vital facility is appropriately secured. With new fencing and protective grills, the building is now as well protected as we could hope for and marks an important milestone in the improvement of the Kirkby Scout Centre. Our thanks to the grant makers for making this a reality.
12th April 2011 - EGM result We held an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Group Scout Council on Monday 21st March to discuss potential changes to the way in which membership fees are paid. The meeting itself recommended a switch to a £10 per month system, although it was felt too few people were present to carry the vote without further support. We sent out further information to parents, including making this presentation from the EGM available, along with voting slips. The results are now in and from September 2011 we will be switching from our current weekly subscription fee to a monthly membership fee.
10th January 2011 - High Sheriff's Fund improves security We recently secured funding from the Merseyside Police and High Sheriff's Charitable Fund to undertake security improvements including a new alarm system and front doors. With the work now completed the Kirkby Scout Centre is fit to be used for our upcoming first ever Beaver Scout sleepover. This work has greatly improved the security of the building and is one of the many steps we're taking to improve our meeting place. Our thanks go to the grant makers for making a real difference to our Scout Group!
Speaking about our recent Beaver Scout sleepover, Jess an Assistant Beaver Scout Leader said, "The improvements to security have made it possible to hold our first ever Beaver Scout residential activity: providing a base for a weekend of great adventure for our Beaver Scouts!"
12th October 2010 - Grassroots makes grassroots difference The Grassroots grant panel have awarded us £5000 to make a range of improvements to the Kirkby Scout Centre aimed at improving the cleanliness of the building. Of particular note we have now had our rather old wooden floor restored to a pleasant easy to clean finish, which was accompanied by a new set of tables and chairs! The building is now so much more tidier, cleaner and easier to maintain. In Scouting, £5000 goes a long way and the benefits for our group have been fantastic. Thank you Grassroots!
"Our Scout hut is so much nicer because of the cleaned floor and new tables and chairs" - Jack, Cub Scout aged 10
2nd June 2010 - KHT Advantage grant improves Kirkby Scout Centre Back in March we were successfully awarded £846 from Knowsley Housing Trust to carry out survey and improvement work at the Kirkby Scout Centre. An asbestos survey was carried out and we reupholstered our fitted seating. We now have a new asbestos management plan in place; prior to the survey we had been forced to simply seal off small parts of the building to avoid any risks. Asbestos hazards have now been eliminated or contained. The benches hadn't seen a reupholstery in decades and were badly worn. The new material has brightened the room and improved cleanliness. Our thanks to KHT for enabling the work to be undertaken. |
