10th August 2013 - Helping hand from Kirkby Blinds Direct

Kirkby Blinds Direct have kindly refurbished the roller blinds for the Kirkby Scout Centre windows for free following last year's fire damage.

Kirkby Blinds originally supplied the blinds back in 2010, and were happy to help us out by refurbishing the blinds free of charge. It's a great help to have the blinds back up and is the finishing touch to the restoration of the Kirkby Scout Centre following the fire in June 2013. Our thanks to Kirkby Blinds Direct for being so community spirited!

5th August 2013 - Double grant success

We have recently secured funding from the Knowsley Community Chest and Knowsley Small Grants for Community Health Initiatives schemes to provide training for our new Scout Active Support Unit.

The Community Chest is funding a project to train our Target Activities Team in how to safely and effectively provide archery and target shooting to our youth members. The team will then start to provide regular training sessions in these sports of accuracy and self-discipline.

Small Grants for Community Health Initiatives is funding a project to train our Water Activities Team to expand the number of Bell Boat Helms we have in the group and also to provide training for two instructors to run Narrow Boat experiences on canals. As part of the grant we are also helping the 2nd Knowsley (1st Whiston) Scout Group and 3rd Knowsley Scout Group to complete Bell Boat Helm training as well.

1st February 2013 - 1st Kirkby launches SAS Unit

Don't worry: we haven't turned into a part of the UKs Special Forces outfit! But our new Scout Active Support Unit (SASU) will be offering adventurous activities in the future.

The new unit will consist of a Water Activities Team, Mountain Activities Team, Target Activities Team and Section Support Team. Starting off with a few people, many of whom are new to our leadership team, we will be providing training to our adult volunteers so they can run all sorts of activities on a regular basis for our members.

12th Decmeber 2012 - Kirkby Scout Centre reopening

We were joined by World Snooker Champion John Parrott to reopen the repaired and refurbished Kirkby Scout Centre on 12th December.

After months of waiting the work planned by Cowan & Co Surveyors & Architects was completed by Frank Rogers Building Contractors. As part of the repairs we have invested money to make better use of the space available. We would like to say a special thanks to Cowan & Co for making a financial contribution to the project so we could meet the required specifications for a full disabled toilet to be installed.

The inside of the building looks as good as new and as John Parrott said, "You have an excellent building, and I hope you make the most of it in the years to come".

17th June 2012 - Kirkby Scout Centre fire

On the morning of 17th June the Kirkby Scout Centre suffered a damaging blaze thought to be the result of an electrical fault.

As a result we relocated initially to Kirkby Fire Station's community rooms, and then made use of the buildings at Copthorne and Mill Farm Adventure Playgrounds. Our thanks go to the Fire Service for their quick response which limited the extent of the damage.
